my dim light might be shining someone else's way

Song Of The Moment

I've decided that sometime in the near future, I will own a Macintosh computer. Now, don't get me wrong...working at Online has NOT made me a "machead"....I am just becoming more informed. I am a through and through windows user.....and the old saying "once you go mac, you don't go back" does not apply to me.
BUT....with the speeds and specs a mac has for digital editing and such, its exactly what I need for what I do. (Fact : The third installement of the Lord of the Rings was sent to the US for editing on an ipod)

So, the training at work is starting to slowly trickle to an end, being transitioned onto the floor and troubleshooting problems. First day of troubleshooting and the internal knowledge base for Online goes down...no information!! Good way to toss us trainees into the water! Good thing that my mentor had the knowledge base backed up...IN DOCUMENT FORM! Over 700 pages long! Thats dedication....

Don't get me wrong, this job is neat, what with working with computers and all...but my real goal is to get something more "Office-based". I look at this job as good experience on a resume...get a few courses under my belt while I am at it, and I'm set....

Well, I'm pooped. Long day listening to all the US accents (btw, Californians really DO sound like they are all blonde), and then an invigorating evening entertaining the little one....I am ready for bed.

time for change

Song Of The Moment

I think the cold breeze in the air this weekend was a good sign that Summer is almost at a close. The leaves in the woods are starting to show thier fiery colors and the evening air carries my breath in ghost-like plumes of smoke.

As my little one and I walked the trails, both wearing fall jackets, the in-between-ness of the seasons struck me. Sunny skies and cold weather....almost pumpkin season. It seems like just yesterday I was watching the last of the winters' snow slowly melt by the sides of the road, black and shrinking. And *wanting* to get out of the house because the heat inside was so intense.

Now, as we both discover the shetland ponies in the neighbours field, you can almost hear the crinkle of the leaves in the trees as they prepare to drop to the ground. The dandelions we both pick to feed him are dry and willing to be pulled out ... like they know its almost time to go. And to think, a few weeks ago, it was so summer-ish.

Guess its time to get out the Fall/Winter jackets and prepare for the cold..... til then?....I think I'll enjoy the colors and the briskness of it all. The sharpness of the view as I look out into the night sky, the feel of the evening breeze on my face, chilled by the season. And watching my little girls amazed expression as she discovers the season all over again.

the Life I chose

Song Of The Moment

First week as an official tech support agent is over and the weekend is here!! Got invited out to play pool at Doolys this evening ... but I promised I would help a friend of mine with her website. So, after 5 days of sitting in front of a computer, I spent the evening *sitting in front of a computer*!
... heh, kinda of funny. (btw, if I could, I *would* make my desk space resemble that pic ...imagine how warm it would be in the winter???)

Not that I mind doing computer-work for my friends ... after all, its one of the things I have been told I have a "talent" for. That, and apparently, writing and taking pictures. A good friend of mine commented today that I should take a course in journalism. And even though that idea bears merit?... I couldn't see any career in it...well, not on the island anyways. So, I'll just keep my writings and visuals limited to my own personal hobby. Career-wise, I think that the computer-field, even though competitive, is a much more stable and financially-better road to take.

That, and, I have noticed that most goals I have set in the past have revolved around other people ... friends, girls, family.... I have never done what *I* liked doing. Well, as of this date, I can't think of anything else I am capable of doing AND enjoying more then digital media producing/computer-handling etc., etc. So, why not expand on it and see where it leads me/see what other traits I have? Would be a much better life-choice then deciding to work nights for the rest of my Life as a glorified janitor, just because friends/family said I should.

Anyways, thats enough of the ramble. Week two at work sounds to be more strenuous then week one, what with self-pace modules, mentoring and training on particular troubleshooting techiques ... I am anxious to see how much I know by the end of it. For now though?..I'm going to sit back and enjoy the weekend.

since I've gone away

Song of The Moment

Thats the place.....my new job. My starting point towards something-like a career. Sure, it may only be doing technical support for ipods and such right now, but you never know what it could lead to, if I put my mind to it and apply what I learn and take the opportunities when they come. I met an old high school friend of mine the 1st day too. He's doing awesome for himself..... someday, that'll be me.....

Aside from the usual training modules, there really isn't too much to do while in training,...besides surfing. Checking emails, checking messageboards..updating websites (when I can!). Someone told me that Advantage was the place I should apply to, on account of their support for websites and the knowledge I have on them. And I have my name in...until they get a hold of me, I'll never know.....

The people in the training class are a mixed bunch too....a busker (breathes fire and juggles), 2 macheads (you can tell, they talk "mac" like I would talk "windows"..just don't mention windows in front of them *ack*), and me!...well, a bunch of other people too....but their personalities have't really shown up yet..... All for all, fun stuff.

Well, thats all for me for today. Need to finish up my research surfing and call it a night.

against the wind

Song Of The Moment

Its been a long and eventful week.
After housesitting monday, got to take a nice long drive to Cardigan to help out a friend pick up her new car on tuesday. Word of advice....big cars aren't easier to handle at 120..
Wednesday...I got to "hone" my parenting skills by looking after the roommates kids while they were working. Nothing like a soccer ball and a BIG OPEN field for wearing them out enough to let them sleep the night.

Thursday & Friday were awesomely spent, walking the trails around the roommates house and taking in the scenes. Right across the road there is a farm and the sights are unreal.... if ever under stress?..I highly recommend a walk down a country road...good for the soul..

Was invited out to Myrons saturday night but, with what was *supposed to be* a major tropical storm, opted out and spent the evening playing poker at my neices.....nothing but a little rain, but thats aight....walked out a winner heh

And today I got to spend a few hours chatting with an old friend of mine.....she's a mystery to me sometimes....but we always seem to be able to keep up with each others *witty banter* (although I STILL won't be able to picture the Elmo sprinkler the same way again! AWK!!)

So, now, I look forward to tomorrow and the "New Job". It will be nice to get a regular routine again..been sleeping in too much lately. And the whole "Need money to buy things" issue has come up....so off I go into the wild world of tech support. Might even take a few pics of the weeks events for this thing...never know!

Anyways, the night grows short........

flick of the switch

Song Of The Moment

Mildly interesting day. Spent a few hours online, updating a few things. Got the call I was waiting for from Online Support. Yeah, gonna start next Monday. 3 weeks training and 9-5 hours. Not too shabby....AND its a step up to what I am shooting for career-wise....
Housesat for a friend of mine this evening and realized how totally useless a tool like the internet *can be* at times. Its basically a tool used for "entertainment" purposes only...unless you know a few lines of code and the basics of a few simple programs...then?...then you can make something on it...creation baby! Pretty amusing.

A good friend of mine from Ontario sent me down a 13 Kg parcel today as well, little messages written all over it in marker "The guy who's picking up this parcel thinks the post office chick is HOT!".... he's always good for a laugh. And you want to talk about being a friend?...after moving out of the ex girlfriends house on short-notice, I soon realized that she might not let me get my things OR my daughters things back.... after hearing this?....my bud sends me this parcel. Inside?...about 8 outfits for my little one, coloring books, crayons, toys, and a shaving kit for me, among other things....
He talks to me this evening and says "There...now you don't NEED to go back to get anything, told ya it was all replaceable." If you're reading this, ya big jerk,...thanks again man.
And thanks to your misses-to-be for picking up the outfits....you guys rock.

Well, as you all can see, the blog has been re-vamped. All the older posts have been saved to draft...but will not be published again. Next, I'll be working on the website. Spymac is going through "changes" and some of the services are not available yet. I'll just have to wait til I can get back in until it can be added to. Anyways, thats for another day.
